Story: The Lion and the Mouse
Materials
  1. One A3-sized picture of a village
  2. One A3-sized picture of a jungle
  3. 10 A3-sized Village/Jungle picture
  4. 10 sets of animal picture cards 
  5. 5 packets of blu-tack

Who wins the game? How?
The first player to paste all his/her cards onto the Village/Jungle card is the winner.
PROCEDURE
TEACHER TALK & MODEL
Where does it live?
1.    Show the picture of a village to the class and ask: “What’s this?” (point to the picture as you ask the question)
2.    Praise pupils for the correct answer, “Good job!”.
3.    Show the picture of a jungle to the class and ask: “What’s this?” (point to the picture as you ask the question).
4.    Praise pupils for correct answer, “Good job!”.
5.    Next, hold the picture card of the Village/Jungle in one hand and show a picture card of say, a zebra, and ask the class, “Where does a zebra live?”
6.    Praise pupils for correct answer and say, “Good job”.
7.    Now pick up a picture card of an animal, say, a Monkey, and ask “Where does it live?” (Use other animal pictures and pose the same question)
8.    Ask pupils, “Where do you live?”(Point to the picture of a house in the village) Pupils: House.
9.    Ask pupils, “Do you live in a jungle?”,They will most probably answer “No”.
10.  Ask pupils, “Does an elephant live in a village?” and “Where does an elephant live?” Praise them for correct answers.
11.  Next, tell the pupils that they will be playing a game. Demonstrate how to play the game:
-       Get one Village/Jungle card (A-3 size), 16 animal picture cards (small) and 3 other pupils to join you in the game (other pupils observe)
-       Deal out the animal picture cards to each pupil (Each pupil gets 4 cards)
-       Ask one pupil whether he/she has a card of a monkey
-       (Remind pupils that they should ask for the picture cards that they do not have with them).
-       If the pupil doesn’t have the card, then he/she has to ask for it from another pupil (“Where does a monkey live?’)
-       The pupil who has the monkey card must answer “A monkey lives in a jungle” and he/she pastes the picture card on the picture of a jungle.
-       Players take turns to ask for cards. The first player to paste all his/her cards onto the Village/Jungle card is the winner.
12.  Group the pupils into groups of four.
13.  Distribute the A3-sized picture card of the Village/Jungle to each group, and an envelope/packet containing 16 animal picture cards.
14.  Start the game.

What does this task do? 
This activity involves pupils’ kinesthetic movement in pasting the respective animal picture cards onto their appropriate habitats. It also prepares the pupils for the reading activity later.

Teacher may need to help pupils in pronouncing some animal names and on how to establish turn-takings for the game.
